GRS News india : Kolkata, 30th November 2024 – The Cake Mixing Ceremony is not merely a culinary tradition; it embodies the essence of joy, togetherness, and the warmth of Christmas cheer. With every blend of nuts and a splash of spirits, the ritual becomes a sweet symphony of love and festive anticipation. Reflecting this spirit of community, Ibiza The Fern Resort & Spa, Kolkata hosted a grand cake mixing ceremony today in its verdant lawn, basking in the golden sunlight of the fall season.
Gracing the occasion were actress Alivia Sarkar and acclaimed painter Eleena Banik, who joined the lively festivities. The ceremony was officially initiated by Mr. Subhadip Basu, Corporate General Manager – Hospitality & Mall (Merlin Group), and Mr. Zaffar Rahman, EAM (F&B), Ibiza The Fern Resort & Spa, Kolkata. Guests, chefs, resort staff, and residents enthusiastically donned aprons, gloves, and Santa hats to immerse themselves in the hearty mixing of dry fruits, nuts, raisins, and spirits.
“The Cake Mixing Ceremony is a cherished tradition that marks the joyful anticipation of Christmas. It is much more than a culinary activity; it symbolizes community, celebration, and togetherness. In fact it sets the tone for the Christmas season blending tradition , creativity and a shared love for the festive spirit. At Ibiza, we celebrate this tradition every year with fun and frolic, joined by our guests, colleagues, and special invitees. This year, we are delighted to have actress Alivia Sarkar and artist Eleena Banik grace the event,” said Mr. Subhadip Basu, Corporate General Manager – Hospitality & Mall (Merlin Group).
Eleena Banik, renowned painter, shared her thoughts, saying:
“I am thrilled to be part of Ibiza Fern Resort’s Christmas cake mixing event. Mixing spices and dry fruits by hand has been a unique and delightful experience. I also loved the lush greenery here, which inspired me to paint a picture during my visit.”
Actress Alivia Sarkar expressed her excitement, saying:
“Cake has been my favourite since childhood, and Christmas always fills me with enthusiasm for this delicious tradition. I thoroughly enjoyed the cake mixing at Ibiza today. For me, Ibiza feels like a second home—I visit often because it’s one of my favourite places.”
The ceremony began with guests and celebrities being handed aprons, gloves, and Santa caps. Led by the chefs and staff, everyone gathered around to mix the ingredients in a large container, starting with fruits and nuts, followed by generous pours of spirits. The mix was tossed and turned until fully soaked. Adding to the festive cheer were Christmas décor and live musical performances, creating a joyful atmosphere of camaraderie.
The highlight of the event was the tremendous task of mixing 25 kg of assorted fruits with 16 liters of wine, whiskey, brandy, vodka, and rum! The mixture will now steep for 28 days before being baked into special Christmas cakes, puddings, and Dundee cakes.
The celebration concluded with a sumptuous feast curated by the resort’s culinary maestros, offering guests a perfect blend of festive spirit and delectable flavours.
